What is Skylab

Skylab or Sport Tuk-Tuk / Tuk Tuk is the common name of the auto rickshaws mostly used in the northeastern part of Thailand. The name “Skylab” is used to call the Tuk- Tuk with the engine size ranging from 90 to 150 cc. Skylab was invented in 1978 by the founder of Ake Pa Nich, Mr. Narong. People called this three-wheeled motorized vehicle “Skylab” because it became popular rapidly among people in the northeastern part of Thailand in 1979 when the first US space station; the Skylab, re-entered the earth. “Skylab”, thus, means a new breed of versatile vehicles on the earth.

Initially, Skylab was developed for the agriculturists to transport their farm products to the market. Later, with its excellent performance, stunning body, and lower fuel consumption comparing with the traditional Tuk-Tuks and pick-up trucks, people apply Skylab to various duties such as city vehicle and taxi as well as traveling vehicles within the industrial area, resort, and along the beach. For those who love freedom and excitement, they also choose to ride Skylab to express their unique and independent lifestyle.

At present, the prevalence of Skylab by APN is not limited only in the northeastern part of Thailand, but it also became favored in the other areas in Thailand and foreign countries as following:
